Following the success of Qredits microfinance (loans, mentoring & training) in the Netherlands Qredits consulted with the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and together they concluded that these services should not only benefit entrepreneurs in the Netherlands, but also in the Caribbean Netherlands. This resulted in opening up a Qredits office on the island of Bonaire in May 2015.
Qredits started a branch on Bonaire in May 2015 in order to encourage entrepreneurship on the island. To realize this:
- A cooperation agreement was signed with the local government on Bonaire
- The loan process is fully supported by credit support and risk management departments of Qredits in the Netherlands.
- An office was started at Bonaire Chamber of Commerce and local business advisors were hired to screen and assist customers.
In 2016 a cooperation agreement was signed with the Aruban government, Chamber of Commerce and commercial banks in preparation of setting up a local Qredits branch in the first quarter of 2017 similar to the one in Bonaire.
From 2017 on a further rollout will take place to other Caribbean islands such as Saint Martin, Saba, Sint Eustachius and Curacao.
